SANASUMA

Sourthern Centre for the Disabled

The SANASUMA is situated in the southern province of Sri Lanka in Galle, which is approximately 120km from the capital Colombo. The centre has been producing and providing artificial limbs for amputees who have suffered from accidents, illness, injury and civil unrest, since 1991. The centre uses modern polypropylene plastic to mould prosthetic devices using technology developed by the ICRC. Orthoses such as braces are also available at the centre.

The SANASUMA also has a wheelchair provision service where users are assessed according to their disability, age, lifestyle and environment. A key feature of the centre is that staff are trained and qualified either locally or internationally in prosthetics, orthotics, wheelchair technology and physiotherapy.
